Do I need to keep the gable vents in my attic since having ridge vents installed with my new roof?
Can I replace them with windows? I have soffit vents for incoming air.

- no i would think so every house i ve seen didnt remove their gable vents! for example wen i got an addition onto my house it has gable vents for the attic that are the color of my siding and my roof also has ridge vents too i believe both of them are used for exhaust keep the gable vent on the outside of your house because it you take it away it will look really silly and incomplete trust me! and also the vets are used for air circulation inless you have a window open thyre full time then you probably could but not an openable window always works!
- for air to go out the ridge it has to come in from somewhere else to create flow.
- I would say yes, but check with your local building code first
- the goal when ventilating an attic space is to get as even airflow as possible. the most ideal situation is soffit vents with a continuous ridge vent. gable vents although extremely effective will draw more air to them making the ridge vent much less effective. most continuous ridge vent manufacturers would ask that you remove the gable vents in order to achieve the maximum effectiveness from the ridge vent. once removed you can fill the holes with whatever you want. below is a little information on the subject, good luck!
