Ventilation Louvres

What kind of door with some ventilation would help solve a sound problem in my apartment caused by the a/c?

The door separating the a/c from the kitchen is the cheapest louver over louver thing out there. Closing the door basically makes it look a little nicer and keeps any pets you may have from playing with gas lines which are also there for the heater. Sound of the thing just starts humming away once it gets too stinking hot here. The sound competes with the TV if I want to watch something & I can hear it from the bedroom as well. The door right now is a piece of crap that must have been on clearance at Wal-Mart or something. I want to go to my leasing office with a complaint but I don't want them to say there is nothing they can do. Is there any door that would provide decent ventilation that can sort of muffle sound? Good brand name door??
