alterantives to fascia board?
i'm having trouble deciding what to do on our eaves. we like short overhangs, despite the mess rain makes. we live in phoenix, so rain is rarely an issue. we wanted to match our existing crown moulding on our house, but may not be able to install it do to our gable vents being so high. we don't want to do fascia board. my question is, what are our other choices? our house is italian plaster exterior with used red brick accents.

- there are a variety of options. IF you don't want to do the fascia board for the sake of painting; I would recommend a metal fascia. Now, I'm not sure if it's steel or aluminum; but regardless it comes in a pre-finished color; so you can get the right color to match your plaster or red brick. The best part is that it's weather resistant; and you'll never have to paint it.
- the fascia is only a covering, generally over the ends of roof rafters or overhangs, the soffit is not necessary if you close off any opening into the roof. since you are using gable vents you may still need some added vents to have the ventilation work. I'd check with contractor doing the work and/or local building regulations for alternatives.
