I have a small house with no ridge vent and lots of heat. what is the least expensive way to remove heat?
NO ridge vents, small cape cod house steep slopes. The house does have gable vents, but it is very hot up there. Solar Fan? how many if so and what CFM? Roof fan? like those big tumbler ones? help I forgot to mention I have no soffit area. it goes from roof slope to gutter and has no overhang!

- My attic fan works great and my house isn't small.
- ADD SOME RIDGE VENTS OR ROOF VENTS AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOFFIT VENTS. DON'T ADD ANY MECHANICAL CONTRAPTIONS 'CAUSE YOU WILL HAVE TO BE SERVICING THEM WHEN YOU DON'T WANT TO.
- the easiest way to remove the heat in the attic is to replace the small soffet openings and put vented soffet around your entire home or at least most of it or install a power ventilator to reduce the build up of heat in your attic...
- Installing a ridge vent is an easy an in expensive way to reduse the heat in the attic and can usally be done for under $50.00 per 30 foot of ridge including cap shingles. it all so works better in the winter then attic fans.
- Since you have no soffit, you are sort of limited in what you can do. You're better off staying passive rather than installing a powered venting system. That way you save on electricity and maintenanmce. So roof vents and/or increasing the size of your gable vents are probably your best shot.
