how do you install gable and soffit vents?

1. Gable vents - cut the appropriate size hole thru the sheathing and siding. Soffit vents - if the soffits are wood, you can buy round ones that fit into a 2 or 3 inch hole that you can cut with a holesaw. If you have vinyl soffit, you can buy vented soffit, used in conjusction with regular soffit.
