Can a bathroom exhaust fan be vented thru attic gable vent?
I realize that a gable vent is for air intake. But the fan will not be on much, just during showering. I saw some of the horror pictures of venting them through the soffit. I know this is common procedure and those pics I saw were improper installation. I cant spend the money to vent it through the roof right now.

- it will be o k. A little bathroom vent is not going to screw up anything.
- Be very careful. My parents had Sears re-do their bathroom a few years ago. The vent that was put in simply vented air into the attic. A few years later, my dad and I were ripping off old shingles to put new ones and the entire area over the bathroom had rotted out. We had to replace the wood in that area. Good thing we were re-shingling the roof, otherwise we wouldn't have known until it was too late.
- yes you should be able to do that, the amount of air that is going to come out isnt going to affect your attic.
- I have had vents in two bathrooms that go into the attic for 15 years without any problems. My attic has vents to the outside at two ends of the house and vents under the soffit
- no matter what advice you get I would be concerned about mold build up. the slight expense to do it via a vent kit outweighs the potential cost of mold remediation.
- Well If you can't afford it ! He is a trick you can do . . . .Thats if you have another bathroom in your house. You can tie it into that one , using a coupler... Good luck..
- This is common practice now. My house is done that way. I was concerned too at first but as you say it is not on much so unless the vent is very close to the roof condensation should not be a problem in a properly vented attic.Remember too that the bathroom fan is also displacing the air from the attic when it is on. In effect pushing the air out.
